The 7th Floor Music Disk Music By Aymes(Andy Yates) Alright? Heres a small collection of songs for ya to listen to. Some where written specificaly for this disk and others were written for compos, other disks and for no reason at all. Most are unreleased (my idea of unreleased is that I aint got em up on traxinspace:). I thought, since my programming skills are almost non-existant id give a short..um..narative (since there's no interface) and my own personal opinion on each piece, so you know at least what I think of my own material. All these pieces were written at my stay in my first house (that i actualy rented out with my Brother and old school friend) so Its like a history of this part of my life in a way. Does that sound too deep? oh well...here goes: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Floor One: Second Steps(September 1999) Starting from the beginning, from when I first moved in. I was asked if I would write a song for a UK Trackers disk...so i did this. The disk never came out to my knowledge(If someone know different please tell me!!!) and I thought it a shame never to release this...I think its not a bad start... My score: Melody: 4/5 Backing: 4/5 Feeling: 4/5 Fullness: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Floor Two: The View from space(July 2000) Almost entered into BarWars 8. I like this song because of its fullfilling nature. Ie. It goes where you want it to go. I wonder if that makes it too predictable? It may seem a bit strange, but I listen to my music quite a bit(more than my friends say is natural, aparantly Im supposed to hate my music!:/) and I love to listen to this song with headphones...mmm...I especialy like the polyphonic sound it creates. My score: Melody: 2/5 Backing: 4/5 Feeling: 4/5 Fullness: 5/5 Overall: 3/5 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Floor Three: Silverfish Glide(April 2000) This song really gave birth to this Music Disk. I wanted to actualy release one of my experiments for once...so I actualy tried to finish one for a change. This song uses a sample I recorded! w00! Which is not something I do often so I was quite proud *grin*. Maybe more of a melody would have been a good idea tho... My score: Melody: 2/5 Backing: 5/5 Feeling: 4/5 Fullness: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Floor Four: Rocks in Space(Febuary 2000) Mmmm...tried to write a tyrian/space invaders game type backing music thing here. Quite like the vox groan ostinato, but getting this one in tune? An impossibility. Now, if you're sick of 'A View From Space' get ready for another sound-a-like at the end of this song(Sorry could'nt resist it:). My score: Melody: 3/5 Backing: 3/5 Feeling: 3/5 Fullness: 4/5 Overall: 3/5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Floor Five: One Hour Robot(Decemeber 1999) Warning, do not listen to with headphones, it'll drive you mad at the start! But apart from that...Very very basic tune, with a few nice bits. Quite repetative tho and abrupt. My score: Melody: 4/5 Backing: 4/5 Feeling: 2/5 Fullness: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Floor Six: Exposure(August 2000) Wanna be jazz tune which I had great fun in writing the melodies to. It actualy came about from someone saying to me 'Ive always wanted to write jazz'. If you got mmx, use it else the section just after the first main tune instance sounds awful. Some nice bass and harmony bits in here I reckon...Some bad notes I know, but after listening to it for a week, I just cant be bothered to do any more to it:) I actualy entered this in the multi- Channel Compo at LTP4...I came 2nd to last...I would uhm..appreciate it if those people who didnt vote for me...to die!!!;) My score: Melody: 4/5 Backing: 3/5 Feeling: 4/5 Fullness: 3/5 Overall: 4/5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Floor Seven: The 7th Floor (May 1999) Where the 7th floor started. This is an old song (and it certainly reflects it) but ive made it tidier and added a few tiny bits. I like the ending melody quite a bit... My Score: Melody: 3/5 Backing: 2/5 Feeling: 3/5 Fullness: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Penthouse: Thanks for comming! (June 2000) Written with an ohc pack i found on my hard drive:) Just used as an ending to the disk really. Nice main tune again:) The title was inspired by the people at work again:) Not very long and it keeps repeating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bonus Song1> Back Wiser (March 2000) This has gotta be one of my favies. Nice tune, nice backing parts and small samples. It embodies everything I like in my music. It was a bit of a struggle to write tho, since before this song I asnt used to not using drums much, and the lack of a bass and snare drum stumped me:) A challange can really be good for you. My score: Melody: 5/5 Backing: 4/5 Feeling: 4/5 Fullness: 3/5 Overall: 4/5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bonus Song2> Nomix - Slow Remix (May 2000) An extention to the slow song in my largest medlie to date. I really like the oboe parts in this. My score: Melody: 5/5 Backing: 4/5 Feeling: 5/5 Fullness: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Roof: All Change (September 2000) Where it all comes to an end im afraid. This was the last song I wrote before everyone but me left this house. Now im on my own for a while...but its a new beginning and Im looking forward to it... My score: Melody: 3/5 Backing: 4/5 Feeling: 5/5 Fullness: 5/5 Overall: 4/5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Greetz: Fromage Krew(in no particular order):- \Slash, reduz, pommac, lilelk, ice_raven, edzes, lysander, AlexG Hellven Krew:- Melvyl, Chimera, Virt, Xerxes, Zaril, Solo The mephtik krew:- Infey, Arc, Skyline Now for everyone else who I associate with irc chans:- #Traxinspace(several of em):- Thrasher, TheTourist, Zan, Elpacoloco, LaSombrA, Warhawk, Zola, DrQ #music:- Smyth, Blacknova, celas And everyone else Who I know: Ballistique, Zionic, Smash, Norfair, Warder, Firestar, Doz, Arcos, Plasma_burn.
